Hanna Ehlers, who is half-Finnish, often gives her designs Finnish names.

Apu means “help” in Finnish, an apt way to describe this 2008 series of multi-purpose ceramic and wood designs produced in Germany by Zeitraum. Apu are a little taller than one foot each and are hybrids of tables, plates and vases.

The ceramic portions of the three occasional tables, which resemble pots or trays, sit atop a wood base available in ash, oak or American walnut. The bases also come in a variety of finishes. The colour can vary from chalk, to warm grey, to graphite black, to aqua blue or pink pastel.
