Polish Team makes Bavaria Hip
It is not often that a design team from a lesser-known country comes to the fore. However, Poland’s PB Studio has done just that with a chic Bavaria-goes-modern interior for Althaus restaurant in Gdynia in Poland.
PB Studio’s young architect/interior design pair of Hanna Bialic and Jakub Piórkowski recently joined forces with Filip Kozarski to create a hip take on a schnitzel house restaurant.
While the food is traditional Bavarian, the decor is a modern base of simple brick and timber. PB referenced southern Germany influences with accents of copper in the light fittings, bottle green pieces that are reminiscent of beer and lots of light golden oak.
None of the rooms are quite the same as any of the others. Downstairs is calfskin and white timber, while upstairs sports green bar panelling and rich green upholstery. A pale modern background of bleached timber walls and white painted brick is offset by traditional items like country-style seating, checked tablecloths and dressers stacked with plates.
It makes you want to eat schnitzel and drink beer, which is always a good thing in a Bavarian restaurant.
