Hakkasan – A Unique Design with a Combination of Styles

It’s hard to name a single style for Hakkasan, a Chinese restaurant located in London. It has been described as Chinese culture combined with the mystique of Arabia. It’s a modern version of traditional Eastern Chinese.

The three areas of the restaurant are divided by screens made from American red oak. The screens are stained a dark shade to create a feeling of warmth for guests. The dining area is separated from the lounge and bar to make each space feel more intimate and the lighter tones of the lattice in the lounge contrast nicely with the screens.

Steven Velegrinis was the designer for this project. He said the oak and marble are the highlights of the design. The dark red oak has become popular for Middle East design. It is also gaining interest in Australia. The American Hardwood Export Council actively supports this increased interest in American red oak and encourages the export of the product.
