Australian Coffee Giant Opens First Shop in Taiwan

The popular Australian coffee franchise, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, has expanded and recently set up its first shop in Taiwan, which is touted as a very lucrative coffee market at the moment.

More plans are in the works as well, as the coffee giant also has plans to open up another shop in Taipei in early 2013 and three more within two years, according to Wu Chia-hsiang, Director of the company that runs the Gloria Jean’s Coffees business in Taiwan.

The new café, which is on Minquan W. Road in Taipei, features authentic Australian décor and café furniture as well as servers that are dressed as scouts.

With this recent move, Gloria Jean’s Coffees now has 1000 cafes in 39 countries around the world, including 430 in Australia alone. Apparently, Taiwan sells an estimated 300 million cups of coffee per year, and was named one of the “World’s 10 Best Cities for Coffee” by SmarterTravel.com, an American travel service website.
