Writing on the Wall: Five Trends in Wall Decor

Wall decor is a cost- and space-effective way to contribute to the design a small space. These five trends are currently transforming walls worldwide:

    • African – A return to a natural ethos is a perfect match for the rich colours, textures and patterns of Africa. Animal hide, landscapes, and tribal patterns, especially when framed in timber, are warming for walls, and the earth tones lend a timeless feel.
    • Stripes – Bold is the theme, although the graceful lines of the romantic era are also present. Strong blends like black and white, or emerald and red, are bringing minimalist walls to life. Chevrons in lines of contrasting colours also work well in a restrained space.

  • Textured – Hand-painted art, 3D surfaces, and plants installed up walls are all helpful when bringing life to a room.
  • Graphics – Hand-writing is making an appearance on ceilings and walls, delivering inspiration or company messages. Hand-sketched illustrations on timber or paper are expressive of a desire to return to the honest and natural.
  • Tapestries – this art form is striking a blow for history, particularly for 20th century French and Belgian Art Deco, along with botanical scenes in earthy hues.
